Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? (プリニー オレが主人公でイイんスか?) is a side scrolling 2D platformer on the PSP that lets players take control of a Prinny as the protagonist of the game. The game is a spin-off of the Disgaea series.

"There is no flesh beneath their skin, only the souls of lifeless criminals. And to pay for their sins, they have been sentenced to a life of slavery. They are bound to serve, day in, day out, until their sins are forgiven...This is the tale of one such day, toiling under a cruel Demon Lord."

Someone has eaten the Demon Lord Etna's Ultra Dessert! Even though it may not have been the Prinnies fault, Etna wants her Ultra Dessert and have given the task of getting her what she wants. Assigned with a strict 10 hour time limit the Prinnies must gather all the ingredients from each stages Boss.

Prinnies are rather fragile and when handled roughly they tend to explode. To prevent this Etna has given you (the Prinny) a red scarf, similar in looks to the scarf that Laharl wears. This red scarf prevents the Prinny from exploding. However, throughout the game you may choose between two difficulties. The hardest mode, called Hell's Finest, allows no room for error. If you get hit, it's a quick death. Normal mode will give you three "lives" represented by three scarf icons in the upper left corner of the screen. Levels are fairly short and each stage also has its own time limit which you must finish the level in. Completing each stage reduces the number of hours left by 1 and makes the next stage even harder.

Playing an entire 10 hour game of Prinny follows these six steps:

• 1) Choose your difficulty
  • You may choose between Standard and Hell's Finest
• 2) Opening Cutscene
• 3) Tutorial Stage
• 4) Prinny Base
  • At the Prinny base you may do things such as Save your game, talk to Etna and any of the other NPC's and access various other functions
• 5) Stage Select
  • You will only be able to select between 6 different stages. The order in which you find the ingredients is up to you, however you may not replay a stage you have already completed.
• 6) Gameplay
  • Main stage -> Boss fight -> Results

Results will give you a rank from S (being the best) to D (being the worse). Your rank is determined by a few metrics.
